Travel Information

There are two international airports in Taipei: Taipei Songshan Airport (TSA) and Taipei Taoyuan International Airport (TPE).

Taipei Songshan Airport (TSA)
If you start your journey from Japan, China or Korea, you may arrive in Taipei at the Taipei Songshan Airport (TSA). Situated in Metropolitan Taipei, TSA is also the hub of domestic air transportation. It is easily accessible from the city centers either by Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) or by taxi. Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE)
The Taipei Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) is the main gateway of Taiwan. It can be accessed via over 190 non-stop and direct flights from 56 major cities throughout the world.

The easiest way to reach Taipei city from the Taoyuan Airport is to take the Airport MRT. One way fare is 160 TWD (5 USD) and it takes about 35 mins from Taoyuan Airport to Taipei Main Station terminal. From the Taipei Main Station, you will be easily connected to Taipei International Convention Center (TICC) via the Taipei MRT (see the MRT map). On the other hand, depending on where you will accommodate, there are also various bus routes available at the Taoyuan Airport to Taipei city. One way fare is 150 TWD (5 USD). Alternatively, you may take a taxi from the Airport to Taipei. One way fare is approximately 1,300 TWD (45 USD).


Taipei City Transportation
Taxi
Taxis are the most convenient way to travel within Taipei City. Taxi charges start at 70 TWD (2.1 USD). An additional 5 TWD (0.15 USD) will be charged after the first 1.65 km or the first 2 minutes and for each additional 300 m or 1 minute. Most of the places in Taipei city are reachable by taxi with a fare of less than 150 TWD (5 USD).

MRT
The Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system run by the city government provides the most convenient commuting service inside the city and between downtown and the suburbs of Taipei. More information can be found at http://english.metro.taipei/.

Currency
Taiwan official currency is the New Taiwan Dollar (NT or TWD). The current exchange rate is approximately 1 USD to 30 TWD; 1 EURO to 34 TWD (as at 2017/07). Foreign currencies can be exchanged at designated banks and hotels. Major credit cards such as American Express, Master Card, Visa, and Diners Club are accepted and traveler's checks may be cashed at foreign-exchange banks.

Tipping & Tax
Sales tax is included in the listed price in Taiwan. Tipping is not customary in Taiwan, but some hotels and restaurants automatically add a 10% service fee to the bill.

Railway
Trains on the round-the-island rail network provide extremely convenient services. Tickets may be purchased three days in advance at

Electricity
Taiwan uses an electric current of 110 volts at 60 cycles. Many buildings also have 220-volt sockets. Visitors with appliances of different voltages are urged to bring adapters with them.
